PT. PREMIER OIL NATUNA SEA BV to solve current HR challenges by implementing SunFish HR as common platform for all HR activities
August 2007, Jakarta – DataOn announces that PT. Premier Oil Natuna Sea BV is implementing SunFish HR in order to replace their multiple, un-integrated HR solutions and use one single platform for their HR operations. Although running the same business applications for the entire group, the Indonesian branch faced problems with the application following local regulations, so that several additional solutions had to be developed in-house to complement the core system and to properly conduct and report business-related activities in Indonesia.
PT. Premier Oil Natuna Sea BV is a subsidiary of UK-based Premier Oil plc, which is a leading independent oil and gas company with production interests in the North Sea, Indonesia, Mauritania and Pakistan. Premier Oil’s continuous success and expansion of its oil and gas exploration and production activities led the company in the nineties to turn its attention to the Far East with a view to developing energy resources to serve this region's rapidly expanding economies. In that context Premier Oil acquired among others Sumatra Gulf Oil Ltd in 1996, which gave the company a majority interest in the Natuna Sea Block, comprising the Anoa oil field and substantial gas reserves, as well as exploration prospects. It also acquired Discovery Petroleum thereby obtaining an interest in the Kakap license, also in the Natuna Sea, which added oil and gas reserves and provided access to further prospective exploration acreage.
PT. Premier Oil Natuna Sea BV and DataOn have a long-standing working relationship. The company had entrusted DataOn with the custom development of many of their required solutions; among them an intranet, drilling system, tax reporting system, and asset management system and therefore is familiar with DataOn’s technology and services. However, maintaining multiple software systems on different platforms often means problems with data integration, quick overviews, unreliable analysis, and efficiency. For those reasons, PT. Premier Oil Natuna Sea BV changed their IT Policy two years ago and began to gradually place all their systems into one web platform and one type of database.
Following their IT goal, this year the company was ready to address the integration of their HR operation. PT. Premier Oil Natuna Sea BV currently has solutions in place for payroll, training, recruitment, and performance appraisal. Unfortunately those solutions are not integrated with each other and therefore the HR department uses a lot of time keeping the systems reconciled with the same data. Moreover, a solution for the core operational module time & attendance does not exist, which is something PT. Premier Oil Natuna Sea BV requires because the tracking of daily attendance status is the basis of the allowance calculation for their off-shore workers.
The company decided for SunFish mainly because the software provides a flexible shift creation function that allows one shift to be linked with multiple attendance presence status as well the option to flexibly change daily shifts within a longer-term work schedule for one or more employees if the need arises. Other main factors for the decision were SunFish’s reputation for proper and accurate calculation of payroll, overtime and taxes as well as its comprehensive self service interface and low costs in maintaining the system.
Once SunFish is implemented the system will integrate all HR related activities, accelerate and simplify administrative HR tasks such as employee data collection, attendance tracking and interfacing such data with the payroll process, request submission and approval, position hierarchy updates, career transition changes, payroll and tax processing as well as reporting and analyzing duties for its currently 400 employees. An integrated dashboard function will allow different users to create their personal HR overview page with which they can control issues relevant to their roles in the HR system and that will alert them to any problems if they should occur. SunFish HR will increase the efficiency and transparency with which the HR department handles core administrative tasks, allowing users to spend more time on more valuable activities such as HR strategies, policies, employee evaluation, and recruitment; thus becoming a more strategic partner in the overall business planning. |
