KOJA Container Terminal underpins the reengineering of its HR structured with SunFish HR
June 2008, Jakarta – DataOn announces that KOJA Container Terminal has selected SunFish HR in order to gradually enforce the reengineering of its standard HR operating procedures and policies and thus to improve the management of its more than 500 employees. The management felt this step had become necessary in order to be able to handle the growing export traffic in Indonesia and obtain an advantage over competitors in the industry.
Indonesia’s growth in the early 1990s has led to increasing import and export activities through the Tanjung Priok harbour, which the two existing container terminals had difficulties to handle. In order to meet the rising demand for container handling service, state-owned PT. (Persero) Pelabuhan Indonesia II (Pelindo II) in cooperation with private company Hutchison Port Indonesia (owned by Hutchison Port Holding) developed an entirely new terminal – the Koja Container Terminal. Committing extensive funds for a modernization program TPK Koja was converted into a world class container hub until early 2003 with the goal of increasing its annual container handling capacity to over 3.5 Mio TEU. The joint venture constructed 513 metres of deepwater quay with the capacity to handle today's largest container vessels. In addition to building 32 hectares of container yard, the terminal has also constructed and enhanced supporting infrastructure such as additional gatehouse lanes and the engineering store building.
Anticipating continuous growth in port activities and required labor to support it, the Koja management was keen to innovate the management of its employees using HR software and invited vendors to participate in a HR tender. Koja required a system that would allow a step by step implementation, starting with the automation of core processes and administration and later adding on strategic HR issues, once the management had finalized its draft concept for training, recruitment and appraisal procedures.
DataOns SunFish HR solution won over two other vendors because of: - its modular approach allows to implement fundamental administrative and operational HR process now WHEREas strategic features can be added into the same system at any time later in the future; - it is fully compliant with current Indonesian labor and tax regulations and is flexible to easily adjust to future regulation changes and requirements; - it possessed more comprehensive featured compared to the other vendors; - DataOn’s many years of HR implementation experience and software implementation success rate; - best value for investment.
Contributing beneficially was the fact that SunFish HR is already being successfully implemented and used in another business unit of Hutchison in Indonesia – namely PT. Hutchison CP Telecommunication. Koja has recently begun the implementation of SunFish HR Professional comprising of Employee Information Management, Payroll & Tax Processing, related administration and tracking of Time & Attendance, Reimbursements, Loans, as well as Organization Structure and Career Administration. Being web-based, the software uses Internet Technology to realize efficiency in the each of the implemented HR processes and Koja can expect to increase the effectiveness and transparency of processing employee information, submitting & approving different types of requests (leave, overtime, reimbursement, loan, etc.), payroll & entitlement processing, as well as management and tracking/analyzing work attendance and reporting. The management will likely see a reduction of operational costs for the mentioned workflows in its HR department.
